Everyone seems to hate on the boxed wine. Sure, your big box of Frenzia may not be your highest quality, but that does not mean that anything in a box is bad. One of the new trends in wine is the (generally smaller) boxed wine. Made for those of us who do not finish a bottle by themselves that night, boxed wines usually have a airtight bag inside that keep air out and your wine fresh.
To better appreciate this, I bought a bottle of Yellow and Blue Malbec. With Malbec grapes from Argentina, the founders tout this wine as an environmentally friendly wine with a lighter container, the box, that decreases carbon footprint (You can ship more for fewer emissions with lighter things). Oh, and its organic!
A VERY deep color, this wine was extremely herbaceous, with some barnyard and bright red fruit. The herbs continued into the mouth with a tiny bit of jam and fake bramble berry taste. But mostly, it tastes like grapes, but like those grapes at the bottom of the bag that are a little brown and you eat them and they’re okay, but you probably wouldn’t eat many more. I think it tastes a little overly produced, but good for those who like a jammy, inexpensive Malbec full of flavor.
